My Guest Post Experience: Motherhood & Baggage
Many bloggers agree that creating a guest post to publish on other blog sites is a great way to gain exposure. Additionally, it is an effective way to generate trust within the blogging community.
Recently, I found an opportunity to guest post for another motherhood blog site. While guest positing doesn’t necessarily mean you have to stay within your niche, I chose to follow through with a blog that was similar to mine in the motherhood niche for this post.
When choosing guest post opportunities, here are some tips that I considered before agreeing to post. I hope these tips are helpful to you!
5 Things to Consider Before Submitting a Guest Post
1. How Can You Benefit the Site?
The blogging community is a unique and large community. We are all learning from one another in some way. Therefore, we should consider the benefits that we can give to one another.
When choosing which site to collaborate with for a guest post, consider how you can benefit the other blogger’s site first. Do you have a unique perspective to share? Is there an experience you had that others could learn from? Do you have professional relatable experience to back your information? Why should the other blogger accept your guest post submission or idea?
From the other blogger’s perspective, they want to add quality work to their site in order to answer questions from their audience or to solve a problem their audience has. Keep this in mind when you pitch to your guest post!
2. How Can the Site Benefit You?
Guest posting is a two-way street; you want to make sure that the collaboration opportunity is beneficial to both parties involved. While guest posting will give you the opportunity to explore your writing skills, make sure you will be happy with the outcome that is projected from the collaboration.
Will you receive a back link to your blog site? Will you be credited for your writing? How will the blogger share your guest post?
Guest posting can help increase your domain authority with the back links created from the post. The blogger posts your guest post to their site and then includes a link to your site crediting you for the work. This gives you exposure to a whole new audience! This new audience can turn into visitors to your site (increasing traffic) and they can convert to subscribers!
Guest posting can be a win-win situation for both parties when done correctly!
3. What Are the Site’s Rules for Guest Post Submissions?
Many blogger’s will have a section on their site with rules for guest posting. Some rules include optimizing your post for SEO, adding pictures, submitting Pinterest images, and having a set word minimum or maximum.
While the above examples aren’t all encompassing to what all bloggers will request for their guest post submissions, this gives you an idea of what to expect. If you don’t want to be restricted or if you feel rules aren’t your style, then guest posting might not be what you are looking for. Either way, knowing ahead of time will allow you to make that informed decision.
4. Will You Be Able to Follow Through?

A truly frustrating aspect of guest posts is when the person asking to be featured on your site doesn’t follow through. It is reasonable to expect that life happens and we can get behind on deadlines. However, if you are not passionate about the guest post or simply have no intention of following through, then don’t even bother reaching out for the opportunity in the first place. Simple as that!
Why put all the work into collaborating with the other blogger and then not actually do what you are proposing? As I stated before, the blogging community is large and influential. Leaving bloggers high and dry can result in a bad reputation!
5. How Can You Advertise Your Guest Post?
Some bloggers will have a specific schedule as to how they advertise your post whether that be posting to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. Check with the blogger whom you will be posting for and inquire about their sharing methods! That way you have an idea how your writing will gain exposure.
In addition, advertise your post yourself once it has been published! Share the post to all your social media outlets and give a shout out to the other blogger for publishing your work!
