Being Mommy
Last Updated on September 23, 2018 by
The day our little one came into this world is a day our lives changed more than we could have ever imagined. Heck, the moment we found out we were expecting was a life changing moment! All the words in the world could not begin to describe the love I have for our baby boy and the joy I feel when I see his smile lighting up the room. It’s the best feeling holding someone so small and innocent while knowing that they are yours to cherish. With all this love, there also comes great challenges being a mommy. There’s the constant self doubt if you’re making the right decision for your child. There is the seemingly never ending sleep deprivation. There is a constant demand for your time and attention. Plus, everything else you’ve committed to in life leading up to becoming a parent (marriage, job, health, etc). Everything can become so overwhelming all at once while you strive to do your best. It’s time to change the tune and give credit where it is due. Day in and day out, I constantly question myself if I spent enough time with our baby? Did I show enough affection towards my husband? Did I get anything done on my to-do list? Did I really just wear my pjs all day again? And so on… but really I should be reflecting on the positives that happened like our baby giggling for the first time, having to wash bigger baby clothes to fit our healthy and growing baby, getting to enjoy a little dessert after dinner. It’s the positives that get you to the next day and finish each day with a smile!
Being a mommy is seriously the toughest and most rewarding job out there. I don’t know how my husband and I were doing life without our little man (actually, I’m pretty sure I slept more then! Ha!). With each day, I recognize how much our baby grows and learns and I also see how much I learn and grow. There really is no preparation for how to become a parent. Professionals can teach you the basics like how to keep a baby alive by feeding them, changing them, knowing signs of illness, etc. But to actually be a parent is something you learn along the way. Each child is unique in their own way and the parent has to know this and learn about their child’s unique attributes. Exhausting! And a lot of trial and error with some finger crossing in hopes that you didn’t just screw up your child too badly! In all, I hope that I’m able to relax enough to enjoy this parenthood journey and give myself a break every once in a while. It’s the most incredible thing to watch our little one learn and/or do something new! He won’t be little for long, which is pretty evident by how quickly he’s growing out of his clothes. And I hope that all the other parents and parents-to-be who read this draw some inspiration from it and realize the greatness in themselves. I’m excited to continue to share this journey!
Always,Samantha <3
